12:23 am - Can I have milkbone with that?
|
|
Ok... Take ??? I keep trying to write more frequently but I just can never stick with it, so at the advice of a friend I'm trying posting a picture and writing about it. Here goes Shelly!
This photo was just too funny. I took this Saturday on my way to Wicca 101 class. I stopped at the McDonald's in Macedon and couldn't believe it when I pulled around the cornor after placing my order. It looked like the dog was ordering! So I just had to take a picture.

Can you just imagine what the worker in the window is thinking when this pulls up and you get a dog about ready to make the leap right in the window? It's better than my other funny drive through moment. When I was in college I stopped at the drive through at the McDonald's outside of Fort Drum. It was in the middle of a snow storm. I pulled up behind the other car and saw that it was an out of state plate so I got closer to see where it was. In the middle of snow storm I was staring at a cheery yellow plate with a rainbow on it that said "Aloha!" The car was from Hawaii! I don't think that poor license plate was ever meant to see snow. It was just so out of place. I wish I had a picture of that!
BTW, if you're wondering how a Hawaiian car might have ended up in the middle of a blizzard, my father's theory was that it was an officer's car from Fort Drum. He probably had been recently transfered. Now that's a sucky transfer!

12:50 am - Ancient language
|
I got this from 2metaldog
I thought it was really interesting.
Your Score: HieroglyphicsYou scoredYou are Egyptian Hieroglyphics! Monumental, ornate and even in technicolour! Your users contributed virtually all ancient knowledge on inks, dyes and writing surfaces - to the point where the popular reed of Papyrus became the universal name for organic, manufactured writing surfaces in the western hemisphere for thousands of years. Proud, upstanding and dignified.

11:17 am - Sorry...
|
|
Wow, it’s been a long time since I’ve done anything with this journal. I just looked back at the last date I entered anything and it’s been way too long. Thankfully I haven’t been deleted yet. I’ve always been bad at writing things down. Everything else gets in the way. Mainly it’s been work that keeps me occupied. Fortunately, things are finally slowing down. Believe it or not, I’m actually typing this at work because I have nothing better to do. I pretty much spent Dec, Jan, Feb and March in hell because of my job. Not only did the call volume go through the roof but a lot of other crap went on. I got accused of gossiping just because a co-worker complained to me about someone else. Then that person walked in and heard her complaining and though I was complaining about her too. I would have been nice if she’d actually listened because she would have heard that I didn’t say anything about her but just listed to the other lady complain. When I defended myself I basically got told that if I hung around with trashy people then I’d get a reputation too, even if I had nothing to do with it. I thought I left SHIT like this back in High School. The worst part was, at the request of supervisor, I emailed several of my friends back at my old job telling them how wonderful my new one was hoping that one of them might like to come work here. I felt like the biggest liar after that. Thankfully it never persuaded anyone. Feb. was even worse. I’ve never feared loosing my job so soon after getting it. One day at the end of the month, they just up and fired 4 people. It was quite the shock. It left only 4 people on the phones for the rest of that day and the following few weeks. We had customers holding over an hour at times. It’s nice that things have finally calmed down. We got a new floor manager who’s really sweet and very helpful. She gets a lot done for us. We also get lunch brought in on Fridays (ever since they cleaned house and fired everyone). Any day I don’t have to bring lunch is a good thing. The other good thing is that my French is getting better. I hadn’t used it in a while and was getting really rusty. Once I got acclimated to the Quebecois accent, taking French calls isn’t so bad. Every now and then I get one I can’t understand. Thankfully, there’s another Francophone rep. here and it’s her native language so I can always fall back on her. Aside from work, things are OK. Marching season is starting again and I have a lot of parades. Since it’s Memorial day week-end I have one Sat, Sun and Mon. You can check out our schedule at http://www.fifeanddrum.org/towpath/calendar.html The only bad thing about all the parades is the gas. Since I don’t get paid to march it all comes out of my own pocket . I’ll go through 1 tank just this week-end since the parades are all in Rochester. I’m dreading when I have to start cutting back on either parades or cable or groceries just so I can feed the damn gas tank and go to work. The winter wasn’t all bad though, I started regularly attending a Pagan church. They’ve since gone to a private coven, but it’s been so nice to get something spiritual back in my life. I think I really needed that. Besides, I’ve made such wonderful friends in the group. I can’t wait for June 2 when we do a dessert and divination fund raiser. The last one was a blast.
I also got a bunch of new “toys” recently. My washer kicked the bucket last fall and I’ve spent the entire winter hauling laundry to my Mom’s. I finally got a new washer!!! It’s one of those nice front loading washers. It’s so quiet. Now the neighbors 3 doors down don’t know I’m doing laundry. It also spins the laundry really dry so my dryer doesn’t have to work as hard. I’ve also gotten a new George Forman grill with the removable plates, a mini coffee pot & toaster oven and a bamboo steamer. I’ve been so domestic lately. J My mom also gave me her bread machine, but somehow the side paddle seams to have vanished. I’ve looked everywhere. So… if you know anyone with a Wellbuilt bread machine, that doesn’t work or they aren’t using I need the paddle that goes in the side of the machine. I can’t wait to make bread again. Well that’s a short summary of everything that’s been happening. Sorry I haven’t done more with this journal. I’ll have to try harder.

8:45 pm - Howdy!
|
Sorry it's been so long. There's not much going on with me. Mostly work, work, work! I think everyone got a safe for Christmas and nobody knows how to use them. It's been a rather stressful month. I think it might finally be beginning to slow a bit. It does get a bit tedious to be constantly bitched at by people in a panic because their safe won't work, they have to have something out of it now and they've just tossed common sense out the window due to the situation. Most people are fairly nice when calling. It's the other 10% that make the day tough.
We've been having fun Ladies' nights out in Towpath. We've been getting together and playing cards. Apples to Apples and Dutch Blitz are a blast! We even gone out for bowling. It's been a lot of fun just hanging out together.
I've also got a bit hooked on You Tube lately. I've been finding lots of Jpop videos for some my favorite groups like Minimoni, Morning Musume, Weiss, Coconuts Musume, Judy and Mary, Berryz Koubo, W (Double You), Ali Project and Shonen Knife. I really recommend checking out the really cute Minimoni Hamster dance video, Ali Project's Gesshouku Grand Guignol, W's Robokiss, Minimoni's Lucky Cha Cha Cha, Judy and Mary's Doki Doki and Berryz Koubo's Waracchaou yo Boyfriend.

1:46 am - Another Tea House
|
This afternoon Food Network was running a marathon of "Road Tested" and one episode featured this magnificent tea house in Boulder, CO. Being a tea addict, I thought I'd share the website. It's really cool. Definatly worth checking out. It actually came from Tajikastan in Asia. On the show, they featured a Tangerine Tea Ginger Bread cake that just looked to die for. It's just a shame that it'd cost a total of $23 to get one shipped to NY. I might just have to splurge and get one though. My mother always splurges and gets her fruit cake from a bakery in Texas (Collins St. Bakery, I believe). It was another food network find that turned out to be worth trying.
Anyway here's the web site: http://www.boulderteahouse.com/ Enjoy!

You are The Moon
Hope, expectation, Bright promises.
The Moon is a card of magic and mystery - when prominent you know that nothing is as it seems, particularly when it concerns relationships. All logic is thrown out the window.
The Moon is all about visions and illusions, madness, genius and poetry. This is a card that has to do with sleep, and so with both dreams and nightmares. It is a scary card in that it warns that there might be hidden enemies, tricks and falsehoods. But it should also be remembered that this is a card of great creativity, of powerful magic, primal feelings and intuition. You may be going through a time of emotional and mental trial; if you have any past mental problems, you must be vigilant in taking your medication but avoid drugs or alcohol, as abuse of either will cause them irreparable damage. This time however, can also result in great creativity, psychic powers, visions and insight. You can and should trust your intuition.
What Tarot Card are You? Take the Test to Find Out.

7:13 pm - What color are your undies?
|
I thought this was really cute.
| Your Lucky Underwear is Blue | You are caring and extroverted. You've made relationships your number one focus, and your lucky blue underwear can bring some balance to them. You thrive in one-on-one situations. You are a good listener and a natural born therapist.
Sometimes you let the concerns of others become too important in your life, leading to stress and worry. If you want more balance, put on your blue underpants. They'll help you take care of yourself first. |

3:16 pm - Email Hoaxes
|
|
My friends at work always send me really funny emails. I love some of the jokes and occasionally I share them here, so everyone can share in our warped sense of humour. I have one friend who always sends me more serious emails. Unfortunatly a lot of them are hoaxes. I want to tell her the email is junk, but I feel bad about it. For example, here's the one I got today:
I'm all for freedom of religion but that fact that they were complaining that Touched by an Angel went off the air, seemed odd, considering it's old. I ran it through www.dogpile.com and found a number of articles showing it's a hoax. Check out http://urbanlegends.about.com/library/weekly/aa050599.htm This hoax has been going around since 1975! The lady mentioned in the email is dead, in fact the description of how she vanished and died sounds like a Law & Order SVU episode I saw.
Not that I mind to much getting the emails. Sometimes they're pretty interesting. I feel bad that she seems to be taken in by them. If you have any suggestions of polite ways to inform her of the hoaxes, I'm open to suggestions.
Just for fun here's a list of other hoaxes that you might find interesting.
So always check you emails, especially if they seem fishy! Just Google it or check a search engine. There are a lot of sites that will tell if it's a hoax or not. You'll probabl

2:37 pm - World Music

I was reading CNN today and I found this interesting article on National Geographic,
I love music from other cultures. I don't think Americans get enough exposure to it. Most probably don't even realize that other countries produce pop, rock, even rap and hip hop in there own language as well as having traditional music of their own country. Personally, I'm hooked on French music (because I speak French), Japanese pop music (due to my severe anime addiction), and Irish/ Celtic traditional music. It's pretty diverse. I don't like a lot of the music on American radio these days. It doesn't do much for me. It is nice to hear a strong Latin influence in some American music (I love Shakira), but you still don't hear much on the radio in other languages. When I lived in France, you could hear both American & French music (they're required by law to play about 60% French music, if I remember correctly) as well as some Senegalese music, which was popular in discotheques. It's too bad American radio can't be a bit more multicultural. I believe that you don't need to know the words of a song in order to appreciate & enjoy it. (although it helps). I think it would make American a bit less Xenophobic & Ethnocentric. Americans also don't realize that our music has influenced so many other cultures. Jazz, Rock-n-roll & Rap are all American forms of music that have spread. Even though I'm not a fan of rap, it was interesting to see a compilation of rap videos from around the world put together on World Link TV. One video from France had a very cliche video, guys hanging in the hood, sitting on there modified cars, wearing loose baggy clothing, and rapping. Only difference was they were Arab. It was interesting to see who they identified with in our culture.
So.. check out the web site it's http://worldmusic.nationalgeographic.com Also if you get Dish Network, you can watch music videos from other cultures on World Link TV http://www.worldlinktv.com/ . National Geographic's site is pretty interesting. They have samples of the music & bios on the artists. Some recommendations are: Amadou & Mariam (who are both blind), Lady Smith Black Mombazo, Youssou N'dour, and Beausoleil. World link TV has a lot more variety, but is mostly pop music. Hope you enjoy the music!

As requested I have some updated pictures of my tattoo. My mom took them. I don't think the color looks as nice in them as it does in person, but she did use her good camera. The resolution is great. Her smaller camera produced to much flash glare on me.
I was also remembered today that I had a flyer for the Sterling Ren. Faire. There's a web page for it so you can check out the schedule in advance. Go to www.sterlingfestival.com Be sure to check out the schedule of events. July 22 is Pirates Weekend. I wonder if I should wear my uniform? I'm always getting mistaken for a pirate! It's too bad it's only off by around 200 years. ( The Ren Faire is dated 1585). They're having a costume contest for the best pirate outfit. I can't wait for next week-end!!

3:40 pm - Optical Illusion Fun
|
|
After a crappy start to my day, this morning; things are starting to go a bit better. At least I'm busier, so I'm not falling asleep at my desk to badly. I got these optical illusion picutres a co-worker. They're fun. I like #7 the best. It's really neat. I hadn't seen on like that before. so check under the cut, because I don't want to overwhelm anyone's friends page (or you poor eyes)
Aren't those fun?
I have more good news. I can't wait for next week-end. My friends are coming up to visit and we're all going to the Sterling Renaissance Fair. I can't wait a whole week! I haven't been in a couple of years. My favorite is the Nun Show. I bought their CD a few years back and for someone who went to Catholic school it's a blast. I'm hoping it's going to be good weather. I'd had to have it rain on the one day we have to go. Now I just have to get my garb out and make sure it still fits.
